Passing of Life Member Ed Ricks
It’s with deep sadness the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department announces the passing of Life Member Ed Ricks on March 6, 2022 . He joined the LVFD in February 1963 and served in many different leadership roles. Starting with the LVFD as a junior firefighter, Ed eventually rose to the rank of Assistant Fire Chief, served on the Board of Trustees, was a Parliamentarian, and led many committees over his 50+ years in service for others. Eddie was also a Life Member of the Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad as well as a multi-term Laurel City Councilman. Ed had a very successful government career and at an early age became part of the Family Division of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. He was responsible for more employees than the entire circuit court for Prince Georges County and was a nationally recognized expert in child support matters. He was there in so many different ways over the years for his beloved Laurel community. He was a true friend to so many and helped so many at their time of need. We will sorely miss him as will the many people that call him a friend, mentor, colleague, and neighbor. Ed’s life, his work, his contributions, and his many friendships leave a lasting impression on all of us.
